It was a big year for The Chainsmokers, with their singles ‘Paris’ and ‘Closer’ also featured on the Top 100, in at No.29 and No.82 but neither could match ‘Something Just Like This’, with airplay that is the equivalent of playing the track on repeat for 59 days.
Keith Williams, RCS Vice President Asia Pacific said “It is disappointing that there aren’t any Australian acts in the Top 10 this year. Last year we had Sia at Number 4 with ‘Cheap Thrills’ and Flume at Number 5 with ‘Never Be Like You’. The good news is there are a total of 13 Australian artists in the Top 100 Most Played Songs for 2017,” he commented today.
Shining the spotlight on artists closer to home, Lorde’s ‘Greenlight’ was in at No.10 receiving 15,454 spins with Jessica Mauboy not too far behind at No.25 with 12,705 spins. Other Australian/New Zealand acts on the Top 100 Most Played Songs include Starley, Pnau and Peking Duk in at No.34 (Call On Me (Remix)), No.43 (Chameleon) and No.45 (Stranger).
Ed Sheeran stormed the Top 10 with ‘Shape Of You’, ‘Castle On The Hill’ and ‘Galway Girl’ at No.3, No.4 and No.7. Combining all of his singles, remixes and collaborations, Sheeran was the most heard artist on Australian radio of 2017 with a grand total of 79,609 spins across 48 stations.
